Mi Buenos Aires querido!
Parte 1 – a comida

No feriado de 12 de outubro visitei o país vizinho e ADOREI!!! Foram 5 dias na capital Buenos Aires e SIM, as carnes argentinas são maravilhosas! Para os amantes de uma boa carne (principalmente “jugosa”- mal-passada) a cidade é , literalmente , um prato cheio.

La Cabrera – um dos lugares onde se pode comer a tradicional parrilla argentina e ainda desfrutar de um visual bem aconchegante e rústico. Peça também de entrada a provoleta com jamón, tomates secos e pesto...você não vai se arrepender!

Ojo de bife

El Palácio de La Papa Frita – aqui a pedida é uma boa carne (Lomo, Bife de Chorizo) e as batatas fritas...elas são estufadinhas, uma delícia!

Helados Jauja – esqueça tudo que já te falaram de sorveteria em Buenos Aires (inclusive a mais famosa Freddo) , se você quer um bom sorvete e se arrisca em sabores diferentes (alguns exóticos) esse é o lugar. A sorveteria é especializada em frutas da Patagônia.Minha sugestão é o sorvete de Maqui com leite de ovelha.

Café Tortoni – o café mais antigo do país e outrora reduto de figuras como Carlos Gardel (em cima funciona o Museu Nacional do Tango) não pode ficar de fora do tour. Dependendo do horário há uma pequena fila para entrar, porém para quem gosta de cafés e história vale a pena. Cuidado com o churros que acompanha o chocolate, não é igual ao que estamos acostumados, um pouco mais durinho e quase salgado.

Buller Pub – para quem está acostumado a freqüentar pubs nada de diferente, porém essa degustação de cervejas de fabricação própria, num dia de sol em plena Recoleta é uma boa pedida.

El Trapiche – a surpresa da casa foi o atendimento bom e simpático (coisa rara em Buenos Aires), a carne (entrañas – não, não é miúdo ou coisa do tipo, segundo o garçom “és toda la pança”) e a sobremesa (Uma bola de sorbet de limão mergulhada em uma generosa taça de champagne).

Patrocínio esportivo

Como pode milhões de dólares envolvidos em patrocínio esportivo? Sempre me fiz esta pergunta...principalmente pensando em automobilismo.
Não é que recentemente convidaram a escola para patrocinar um time de futebol society empresarial! E eu envolvido pela emoção e empolgação dos “atletas” aceitei a proposta. Lógico, que não se tratava de milhões de dólares.
Enfim, no dia do primeiro jogo, quando eu vi o time entrando no campo com o uniforme estampado no peito o nome da escola, juro que passei a entender os milhões citados acima; foi o maior barato! É muito legal ...passa um filme na sua cabeça, motivo de orgulho sadio, aliás ano que vem completaremos 15 anos.

Idioms - A horse of a different color

I can’t really say why, but I decided to start a series of blogposts on idioms, but they won’t be any idioms, they’ll be ANIMAL idioms.

Nothing better than to start it with the king of the farm, the guy who has to painstakingly carry everyone on his back, including rednecks. This figure of robust build, but who is the animal most killed in human wars.

The HORSE

My top 5 Horsey Idioms are:

1. Hold your horses = wait

Hey, hey, kids! Hold your horses! You’re not getting any ice-cream before you eat all your meal. (broccoli?)

2. To horse around = to play around in a rough way

Can you kids stop horsing around in front of the telly? I’m trying to watch serious footie here! (Brazil x Portugal?)

3. Look a gift horse in the mouth (usually in the negative) = to be ungrateful to someone who gives you something; to criticize something that was offered to you.

Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth kiddo, this is a fine present you got from Auntie Clementine. (socks?)

4. To hear straight from the horses mouth = to get some information from a reliable source, from someone involved in whatever you’re talking about.

Are you sure Lady Gaga is coming to play in Osasco?

Yep, I heard it straight from the horses mouth. (this one below right?)

5. Put the cart before the horses

Skydiving

Segundo o Wikipedia o medo é um sentimento que proporciona um estado de alerta demonstrado pelo receio de fazer alguma coisa, geralmente por se sentir ameaçado, tanto fisicamente como psicologicamente.

Por esta explicação “alerta”, “receio”, “ameaçado” é lógico deduzirmos que nunca faríamos certas coisas em nossas vidas, como por exemplo “SALTAR DE UM AVIÃO”. Pois bem, mentira! Tem gente que salta! Eu já saltei e no fim de semana passado Willy saltou. Por quê? Não sei responder racionalmente, só sei que hoje não faria isso.

Pontos positivos:

- por menos religioso que seja, Deus faz parte da sua vida como nunca, ao menos por 1 minuto.

- depois que tudo passa, parece que atravessar ruas, ver baratas, a conta do banco ficar negativa, nada significam. Você sobreviveu a uma queda livre – Está VIVO, é o que importa!

Agora eu quero o seu comentário. O que já te aconteceu que fez você mudar a perspectiva sobre algo drasticamente?

Volunteerism

Muito comum você ter a consciência que serviço voluntário é importante e que fazer o bem faz bem, mas você faz? Difícil é encontrar alguém que faz regularmente.

Hoje quero falar do Aldo. Ele é peculiar! Ele faz voluntariado com tanta felicidade que a impressão que passa é que quem está recebendo a dedicação dele é quem está fazendo a “caridade”. Incrível!

O Aldo é técnico de futebol e professor de inglês com a English in the Office, juntou todo este conhecimento e é voluntário no Little League promovido pela American Society. Todo sábado abdica de ser remunerado ministrando aulas de inglês para atravessar a cidade do Belenzinho até o Graded School no Morumbi para praticar o bem.

Neste último dia 22 de maio ele entregou medalhas de participação para as crianças que participaram do projeto neste 1º. semestre.

First Post - Ales!!! 'cause we love beer

Muita dúvida sobre este primeiro post, temas não faltam...

Num momento de descontração na escola, Glauber, Willy e eu discutíamos sobre nosso blog saboreando um delicioso queijo junto com uma variedade de quatro cervejas inglesas. Lá, elas custam o equivalente a R$6,00; aqui compramos por R$20,00 na Casa Schwarz, no Brooklin.

Newcastle - Brown Ale (alc. 4.7%)
